A Waterfront Area Once Facing the Sea: Shinagawa - Transport Network and Share Houses

While there are some large-scale share houses in Shinagawa, many are medium to small-scale renovations of small apartment buildings or private homes.

When you hear 'Shinagawa,' you might think of a business hub with many corporate headquarters and offices, but it is also an area close to high-class residential neighborhoods like Takanawa.

Shinagawa Station is located at the foot of the Musashino Terrace, where Mita and Takanawa are situated. Surprisingly, when it first opened, the tracks ran along the coastline, and there was a view of the sea to the east of the station. Most of the area where high-rise buildings now stand is reclaimed land from the Meiji era onwards. Shinagawa Station's role as a terminal increased after the Tokaido Shinkansen began stopping there, but it was already a vital transportation hub served by the JR Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku, Joban, Yokosuka, Shonan-Shinjuku, and Tokaido lines, as well as the Keikyu Main Line and Keikyu Airport Line. Takanawadai Station on the Toei Asakusa Line is also within walking distance. Recently, a new Yamanote Line station between Shinagawa and Tamachi was opened, and large-scale redevelopment of the surrounding area is underway.

Why not enjoy this somewhat mysterious area, where Showa-era emotional residential streets spread out to the south of the station and modern high-rise buildings stand to the east, from a share house♪
