For those looking to cut down on commute times in Ikebukuro, Akabane, or Nerima, focusing on properties within a 5-minute walk from the station will significantly reduce the burden after you get home.
Ikebukuro offers excellent transit connections via the Saikyo, Marunouchi, and Fukutoshin lines; Akabane provides direct access to the city center via the Keihin-Tohoku and Shonan-Shinjuku lines; and Nerima and Itabashi are areas where you can keep rent costs down along the Seibu Ikebukuro and Tobu Tojo lines. Even near stations, if you expand your search toward the Itabashi area, you can find private rooms at affordable price points.
