A women-only share house accepts only women as residents. The house rules still differ from one house to another: whether male family members or friends may visit, and whether male staff enter the shared areas for cleaning or maintenance. Security features such as an auto-locking entrance or locks on private rooms also vary by building. Check the "Move-in conditions" and facilities on each house page, and ask the operator when you send an inquiry if something is not written there.
If you do not need a strictly women-only house, you have more to choose from. Among co-ed houses, those where 40% or more of residents are women are listed under houses with many female residents. Daily life also differs between women-only houses. If you prefer some distance, look at houses where residents keep to friendly greetings. If you want a social home, try houses where almost everyone socializes. You can also narrow women-only houses by the age of current residents: 20s, 30s or 40 and over. These filters are based on the resident data that the operators register.
Most women-only houses are in Tokyo and Kanagawa. If you already know where you want to live, start from women-only houses in Tokyo, Yokohama or Osaka. To keep rent down, sort by lowest private-room price. The rent table on this page shows typical rent by area.
