Kichijoji: The top choice for share house living!
The survey results showed that Kichijoji was the most popular choice.
- It’s consistently ranked as a top place to live, so I figured it must be a popular area. (30s/Female/Part-time worker)
- If it’s the #1 most livable area, I don't think you’d have any trouble living in a share house there. (20s/Female/Student)
- It’s not as chaotic as Shinjuku or Ikebukuro, and the rent seems reasonable. (20s/Female/Office worker)
Kichijoji’s reputation as a highly desirable place to live is clearly reflected in these results. Because it is well-regarded, people likely associate it with a comfortable lifestyle, even in a share house. Respondents also noted that the rent feels reasonable, suggesting that it is seen as an affordable place to live as well.
Shibuya: Great access, and more affordable with a share house!
Following Kichijoji, Shibuya was the next most popular choice.
- I like Shibuya because of its excellent transportation access. But rent is too high for living alone... (20s/Female/Contract employee)
- It’s usually very expensive to rent there, but if a share house makes it cheaper, then it’s definitely a popular choice for the city center. (30s/Female/Office worker)
Many people seem to want the convenience of Shibuya but are deterred by the high cost of renting an apartment. Because Shibuya is known for being expensive, the idea of using a share house to make living there more affordable is very appealing. This highlights a key advantage of share houses: the ability to live in prime, high-rent locations at a lower cost.
Shimokitazawa: A stylish neighborhood popular with the youth!
The third most popular response was Shimokitazawa.
- It’s a popular area for young people, so everything is geared toward them. That’s why I think it’s so popular. (20s/Male/Office worker)
- Youth culture is thriving there, and it’s a very stylish neighborhood, so share houses are popular too. (20s/Male/Office worker)
Responses frequently highlighted Shimokitazawa as an area popular with young people. Because of this, it has developed a vibrant, youth-oriented culture and a stylish atmosphere. When looking for a share house, checking the "vibe" of the neighborhood—such as whether it caters to a younger crowd—can be a great way to find the right fit.
Jiyugaoka: Not just stylish, but calm and relaxed.
The fourth most popular choice was Jiyugaoka.
- There is nature and local facilities nearby, and the environment doesn't feel cluttered, so it seems like a peaceful place to live. (20s/Male/Student)
- The town itself is stylish, it’s easy to get to the city center, and it’s not as crowded as downtown. (20s/Female/Part-time worker)
- I have an image of it being a calm neighborhood. I’m not a fan of places that are too noisy. (30s/Female/Freelancer)
People seem to view Jiyugaoka not just as a stylish area, but as a calm one. For those who dislike noisy, chaotic environments, this neighborhood could be the perfect place to settle down.
